Chris had created portraits from time to time, but got the idea to concentrate on portraits as a body of work after finishing his Nepal book and being approached about creating children's portraits on a commission basis. A few months later, Chris had already done several. He says, "It seems that the older I get the more friends of mine have children. Seeing how quickly time flies by, I thought portraits of them before they grow up too soon would be a nice gift. Parents and grandparents really seem to like them, and one friend even had me do a painting of herself as a child for her mom. I like the portraits in watercolor because you can really let the medium speak for itself while maintaining a realist quality, without having to worry about trying to be a 'photo realist'."

Commissions for watercolor hand-crafted single child portraits on 11" x 14" watercolor rag paper are $400 apiece, with a 4 - 6 week turnaround and a 25% deposit. Larger portraits and/or more than one child per painting are negotiable. All portraits are produced from photographs. Non school/yearbook/professional 'portrait photography' images are preferred.
